Ingredients
Bread
- French bread or Italian loaf: 1 (≈450 g) — 12–14 inch loaf
Garlic butter
- Unsalted butter: 113 g (½ cup) — softened
- Garlic: 4–6 cloves — finely minced or grated
- Parsley: 2 Tbsp — finely chopped
- Salt: ½ tsp
- Black pepper: ⅛ tsp
- Olive oil: 1 Tbsp — optional for extra crisping
Optional toppings
- Parmesan cheese: 2–3 Tbsp — finely grated
- Red pepper flakes: pinch — optional
Instructions
1. Heat the oven
- Heat oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Line a sheet pan with foil for easy cleanup.
2. Make the garlic butter
- In a small bowl, combine softened butter, minced garlic, parsley, salt, pepper, and olive oil.
- Mix until smooth and evenly combined.
3. Prepare the bread
- Slice the loaf in half lengthwise.
- Spread the garlic butter evenly across both cut sides, edge to edge.
- If using Parmesan, sprinkle it on now for a melted top.
4. Bake
- Place the bread halves cut-side up on the sheet pan.
- Bake 10–12 minutes, until the butter is melted and the edges are golden.
- For a crispier top, broil 1–2 minutes at the end, watching closely.
