Ingredients
Bread
- French bread: 1 loaf (≈450 g) — or Italian loaf; 12-14 inch
Garlic butter
- Unsalted butter: 113 g (½ cup) — softened
- Garlic: 6 cloves — finely minced or grated
- Parsley: 2 Tbsp — finely chopped
- Fine salt: ½ tsp
- Black pepper: ⅛ tsp
- Olive oil: 1 Tbsp — optional for extra crisping
Optional toppings
- Parmesan: ~2 Tbsp — finely grated
- Chili flakes: pinch — optional
Instructions
1. Heat the oven
- Heat oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Line a sheet pan with foil for easy cleanup.
2. Make the garlic butter
- In a small bowl, combine:
- 113 g (½ cup) unsalted butter, softened
- 6 cloves garlic, finely minced or grated
- 2 Tbsp parsley, finely chopped
- ½ tsp fine salt
- ⅛ tsp black pepper
- 1 Tbsp olive oil (optional)
- Mix until smooth and evenly combined.
3. Prepare the bread
- Slice 1 loaf (≈450 g) French bread loaf in half lengthwise.
- Spread the garlic butter evenly across both cut sides, edge to edge.
- If using Parmesan, sprinkle ~2 Tbsp Parmesan on now for a melted top.
4. Bake
- Place the bread halves cut-side up on the sheet pan.
- Bake 10–12 minutes, until the butter is melted and the edges are golden.
- For a crispier top, broil 1–2 minutes at the end, watching closely.
- Optionally, finish with pinch chili flakes.
